Sausage Saga Part XXIV
Firstly I should say they tasted terrific, they could grace anyone’s Full English breakfast and complement Heinz beans and creamy mash. Subtle flavours too, I do have a tendency to overdo herbs and spices I’m afraid.
However, I learnt something new last night. Due to the high fat content (I deliberately didn’t buy lean pork so the fat would bind the stuffing) and not really wanting to have to clean my oven because of it, for the first time in probably thirty years I fried rather than grilled them. To my consternation, stuffing oozed out of the ends.
I never prick sausages but these it would seem, need it. It took me until today to realise why it happened with this batch and not the last lot - it’s because I used a whole loaf of bread. I reckon the crumbs absorbed fat and expanded.
I found out why I don’t have class Friday morning to make up for my day off on Monday. They have another class instead. I don’t care, the salary is the same regardless of how many periods I teach.
I woke up this morning and thought the bedroom was a bit chilly. I am still sleeping under an empty quilt cover because the heating keeps it nice and warm. The heating was off and heck was it cold in the rest of the flat. That little fan heater has already earnt its money, kept me toasty in my office while I contemplated how to pass the day doing nothing.
In fact apart from the daily beer and jing jo run, the only thing I have done is go and get my ears lowered. It felt a bit parky above my neck when I walked home and we are still at 7C so I am not looking forward to the next shearing, which will take place probably in the very bowels of winter!
I just asked Janet via text if the kindergarten gets visited by Santa at Christmas. They don’t. East campus has a kindergarten. Whether it doubles as a training ground for the students (they all want to be kindergarten teachers) or not I don’t know but it would be a shame not to dust off the old Santa outfit!
I am rounding off this lazy day by having a ready meal lasagne. No, you can’t buy them in supermarkets, you have to make them and freeze them yourself!
