Dinner last night consisted of hotdogs at Buddy’s with a small bucket of chips to share. It was agreed that ketchup should be poured on the chips. Accordingly, I shook the bottle beforehand. I am not so stupid as to not hold my index finger on the cap - I don’t want to get smothered in sauce.
That’s exactly what happened though, for when I unscrewed it for some weird reason the contents were under pressure and I was splatted over my hand, shirt, trousers and coat. thank you, Heinz.
I set an alarm way too early this morning and found myself wide awake at 0420. Not a good start. Then when we left a little early to allow Alice to get some breakfast, she informed me she didn’t want any!
Three students turned up asking for their exam. The girl had admittedly telephoned me on Tuesday, the boy who can’t speak English at all and who everyone had told me had dropped out of university came and a boy who was apparently in my class but I swear I have never seen before also turned up!
Janet asked me to test them, so I did. But how can you examine someone who can’t even understand the question??
Then she suggested it would be best if I passed all the students! I informed her that only Suzy had just scraped a pass, I wanted to be honest but if the school wanted to cook the books that was up to them. What would I look like if Cyprus think they are getting fluent English speakers based on my marks and they find otherwise? I can imagine the call - “Which teacher said these students were competent?”
Ten of us went to lunch at a steakhouse. I even finished my meal but I won’t be eating dinner tonight. Suzy told us which bus to get to connect with the 15 which comes near my home. I had never been on the 138 before and assumed it was going to five streams terminus. When Alice said we should get off at a certain stop I said no, we need five streams.
Of course it never went there, in fact I don’t know where we ended up but we were treated to a nice long walk to find a stop near the yellow river, at which point not only was the river the cleanest I have ever seen it but also had an opportunity to take some photos by the bridge built to commemorate Sun Yat Sen or something like that. A young couple were atop one of the arches and had attracted quite a crowd beneath them. Whether it was for a dare or a suicide pack I know not but there was no sign of the police so will probably never know.
