Tuesday 12th September, 2017             0045

Well, I did a “bad” thing.

Whilst I am normally happy with my own company, Joanna’s cancellation of her visit had left me all dressed up with nowhere to go during the national holiday. Had I waited until today I may not have done it, but I did.

Unless she cancels and costs me a fortune (all indications are that she will not), Alison is coming with me to Zhangye and Danxia to see the rainbow mountains.

Of course, having been there already it is nothing new to me and no, I will still not be climbing the mountains to take photos. I have booked a different hotel this time though, mainly because it advertises a western restaurant (I doubt breakfast will be remotely such though) and so I can post another review on TripAdvisor.

I like Alison.

I shouldn’t have, I know. Debts to repay and the “biggie” hopefully in summer but the plain truth of the matter is that for once I am actually craving some company. A rare dog for me but having had such an active summer, life seems rather dull around here at present!

And do you know, I have been to so many places recently I can’t remember where I ate when Alice and I went! My brain is mixing everywhere and the internet is telling me I am mistaken. I can’t find a single western restaurant online in Zhangye. In fact I can’t even find where we DID go in January! Maybe Alice can tell me. I have a feeling it was just hotpot.

Still no news on when I will work again. I am praying it will be next week.

I noticed on the Chizhou school website they are “concerned over the safety” of so many e-vehicles being charged on campus. What it really is, is that people use a few pennies of electricity each time and the school isn’t turning a profit. I’m not sure whether it would have affected my set-up seeing as it was hardly dangerous, the correct connections and cables were used and protected by my contact breakers but my guess is that all outdoor sockets will be disconnected. Instead, they are contracting out for a firm to come and instal pay stations such as you see in town. In turn, the company will reward the school financially. Why can’t they just tell the truth???

I went out a little while ago to buy my monthly “regular” medicines and had to run the gauntlet through about eight number 15 buses. They have taken to using the approach road to the two universities here as their terminus. I did notice some days ago that the usual place was over-crowded to the extent incoming ones were impeding traffic on the main road because it was full of 131s. Now instead they are causing mayhem where the street stalls ply and students utilise all the time.

Opposite the jing jo shop the hotel restaurant has recently been refurbished and has reopened as a hotpot place by the look of it. But every afternoon around 1630 the staff congregate outside in their uniforms and chefs hats (toques) in a line facing the boss lady. She delivers an inspirational pep-talk and this is followed by much chanting in unison with the accompanying synchronised clapping. Never seen that at a Hilton!

However, it’s too early to hail any definite success but no aching bones were felt. When I go for potatoes next will be proof.
