Last night was Kevin’s farewell drink. He will return briefly next month to collect some things and has sworn he will visit during Golden Week in October but basically now I am the only gay in the village. It feels odd considering he was always here to fix my computer and do other DIY jobs along with being someone to have massive arguments with. I shall miss all that.
Anyway for expediency I had suggested we take the bus to McDonald’s for dinner where Joan could join us after her work (little knowing he had lunched there!) and then go to a small bar that has western spirits. Neither of us wanted a late one so we were back before ten. It was rather a quiet affair, the bar only had a few customers and we three just chatted as if nothing was coming to an end, which of course it now has.
Today I have been to the supermarket to get some items for Joan who is very kindly cat sitting whilst I am in Hefei and also the makings of a frittata for dinner tonight. The aim is to be in bed by ten tonight and up at six. The “headmaster” without any shadow of a doubt will be telephoning me to ask where I am from seven-thirty onwards even though he has told me our coach will leave at eight. I wonder if I send him a text the moment the bus leaves school it will stop him? Somehow I doubt it. I have bought a bag full of lollipops which will hopefully keep the kids quiet for ten minutes at least on the trip. I just hope we get a stop halfway so I can have a cigar but I will be taking my snuff regardless.
So this is just a short one before I set off for Hefei Ecological Park for four days of being cajoled to do things I am incapable of or don’t really want to do. I swear if it turns out I am bunking with kids I will pay for a damned room myself - the memory of last year is still painfully fresh!
