Sunday 26th November, 2017 1400

Even by my own standards this weekend has been characterised by extreme sloth! Not that I have slept a great deal, an 8 hour stint under the covers is a rare breed these days but because I haven't had to do anything, I haven't!

I went out for sweet pork for my dinner last night and that was my only exercise. Chucking clothes in the washing machine doesn't count. I had a vague notion of going to BHG today but have kicked that into touch. I will probably not set foot outside today – no rubbish to take out and no need to go to the jing jo shop.

I will however cook my dinner. I decided to use the other half of the beef I bought and do a mini roast. I shall even attempt Yorkshire pudding for the first time in a long while. The last time I tried I used too much milk and it was soggy.

I am now questioning whether I really need to get up early tomorrow for the school bus. I don't have to go to east campus but will do so to show willing for the students and their artwork. Do I need to rise in the freezing cold morning, stand and wait whilst my core temperature plummets in order to catch the Death Vehicle? Yes, Mr Schumacher was back at work on Friday – AND I had to sit in the front, with seat belt on I should add.

For 2y each way I can stay in bed longer. I need to go tomorrow though, I have things to do on Tuesday (including getting more electricity as it won't last until the office is open again after that), teaching Wednesday, things on Thursday and either then or Friday I want to go and buy our train tickets to save rushing on Saturday morning.

It has been quite some time since I saw “Grandma” out and about. You may recall I am surrounded by people in the autumn or twilight of their years and you may also remember my speaking of her. I saw her most days, shuffling her slow way to or from who knows where and we would have a completely unintelligible conversation. I am convinced she has left us. It is doubtful she is being cared for anywhere, that's not the way it works here. I never did find out her age (although I could probably have asked her) but my estimate would put her at 90. It's a shame, obviously I don't know my neighbours but there are some I see regularly and exchange ni haos with.

Oh and just to round off my week, the toilet is now flushing as if the S bend is the size of a Bic biro. It's not me, it was fine last night and I have put nothing down it that I shouldn't. It happens occasionally for no reason and then mysteriously clears after a day or two. My guess is others in the building pour cooking oil and fat down theirs and in these temperatures (nights are now double figures below zero) the inevitable happens.
